A little bit about me…
Hi! I'm Ashlyn. I’m currently pursuing a M.S. in Human-Computer Interaction at Georgia Tech.
Prior to grad school, I had a Computer Science and Computational Media background. While I valued the problem-solving aspect of programming, I quickly realized that for me, code was a tool for design rather than the end goal. As I entered the next phase of my career, I wanted a discipline that would allow me to combine my knowledge of development with my love for design. HCI and UX were the perfect intersection.
Given my CS background, I always design with the build in mind. My promise to any engineering team is simple: I will never hand off a design that requires you to defy the laws of physics or break the backend. For me, feasibility is just as valuable as usability.
My Journey
I’m originally from Austin, Texas. I don’t have much of an accent, but 'y’all' remains a non-negotiable part of my daily speech. It’s been five years since I moved away, but I’m still going through serious H-E-B withdrawals and deeply mourning the loss of mild Texas winters. And before you ask… No, I don’t know any cowboys.
I attended American University for undergrad, and I honestly think I left a piece of my heart there in DC. My time there was defined by how much I loved being out in the city. I was constantly exploring or monumenting with friends, and just trying to experience as much of the District as possible. The best part about DC: there’s always something to do.
I’m currently living in Atlanta, Georgia pursuing a M.S. in Human Computer Interaction from Georgia Tech. It’s good to be back in a place where 'y’all' is the linguistic standard. When I’m not studying, you can usually find me struggling through (and loudly hating) the infamous Atlanta traffic, or on a better day visiting either the Georgia Aquarium or the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
I always work with a creative vision in mind. As I design, new visions emerge. They're sparks that make me iterate, pivot, and explore directions I hadn't seen before. The vision evolves as I do. I stay open to where the creative process takes me, letting each new insight shape what comes next.
Have any feedback?
As a designer, I’m constantly looking for ways to improve my work. If there’s any critiques you’d like to provide me for this portfolio, please do so below. Your user feedback is valuable to me!
